Got to admit I`ve done P.O.W at times. I was lucky to get hold of an original pair of pow overalls. M43 with no insignia & low boots. Job done !
The overalls in question are a plain green colour & stamped "A gift from the American red cross".

Agreed. From what I understand the badge wasn`t widely worn in the field. You did not want to be recognised as a sniper if captured.

The answer is simple..... Type 1 smocks did not have the lower pockets of the later type 2. The smocks were rolled up to gain better access to the tunic pockets ! Remember too that originally the smock was to be worn over all the webbing, and the 2 side pockets were to enable access to pouches etc. ...
