Re: Cobru
Thanks for the comments, I had the luck to arrive there at the right moment to take these. It was also a pleasure to see all these very good groups performing in that small village, historical ground and right season of the year, just perfect

I like to show here some photos I took last weekend in and around Cobru (small village near Bastogne) when doing a bicycle tour in the area. http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4790/afbeelding1636.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4514/afbeelding1637.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/292/afbe...

Re: Photoproject "Fahnenschmied nach vor!"
Thank you all for the nice comments !
Patrick,
The tool you have on the left is called a "Butteris", this is a old tool used for trimming the horse hoof. It is a long, sharp chisel wich could be pushed by the farrier's shoulder. No longer used in most parts of the world this days.

Re: any original pics of the A frame pack in use?
It is of course also possible to attach both models on the Allgemeiner Rucksack like the A-frame. http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/2448/afbeelding1052.jpg I want to see someone running with this kit  And it was done :) I have seen this complete bepakkung on a late 1944 Wochenschau, showi...

Re: any original pics of the A frame pack in use?
There is a difference between the Artillerierucksack and the small Sturmrucksack, the Artillerierucksack was introduced in 1940 for all the non mounted personel in horse drawn Artillerie units (the mounted having the leather saddlebags) This small rucksack came with sewn on carry straps because the ...

Re: what is the proper position of wearing the Gasmask cannister
This is the text in the Reibert (from 1938 /39) how to carry the gasmask for unmounted, mounted troops and troops sitting in vehicles. In this text he strap is going over the left shoulder. The different "allert" positions are also descriped. http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/2992/afbeeld...

Re: stg44 used in Normandy?
The first photo showing the Heer soldier with a MP43/44 is one of a serie made by a Kriegsberichter named Theobald, this are men of either the I. or II. Battalion, Grenadier-Regiment 1052 from the 84. Infanterie-Division, marching into Ger in Normandië. Taken on 2 or 3 august 1944 just prior Operati...

Re: Intresting SS unit photo
The only information in that book were two pages with these photos and the discription of the cuff title "SS-Musikschule Braunschweig" and the double lyra collar insignia, it mentioned also that the school was formed on 1 july 1941 and when in july 1944 the school complex in Braunschweig w...

Re: Intresting SS unit photo
Franz, the first time I have seen photos of this school is already a good 25 years ago, in one of the first publications over the different collar insignia, I forgot the name of the book but the cover was printed in brown oakleave camo. The photo with the piano player and this one here was in it. ht...
