Re: Helferinen Uniforms

Heh. Sorry, I haven't really kept up with the board lately ... lots of other stuff in real life keeping me busy. I do always get PM's though since I receive a notice in my email about them. So PM is the fastest way to get a hold of me. Anyway, Joe, I sent you a PM reply. I see that you're in PA. You...

As most women's organizations in the Reich were auxiliary organizations to their male counterparts, how 'bout the WARS Women's Auxiliary? Or is that too cheesy?

I don't think it's so surprising that Bee doesn't know what they are. That's like asking the average person who has English as their native language to explain to a non-English speaker what a part of a car or a part of a weapon is. Most people wouldn't know the English term, let alone be able to exp...

I think that this is a whole lot of hullaballou over nothing. I second this. It's an older building that was most likely built like that because it made the most sense in terms of using the available space to its best advantage. Wasting a boat load of taxpayer money on "fixing" something ...

The Soldbuch Anatomy articles from Der Erste Zug are really good. :) You can find them at http://www.dererstezug.com/LandserItems.htm under Issued Gear. They have other good stuff, too. Oh, and if you ever make BDM documents, let me know so I can a) get a set and b) link to them from my reenacting p...

I second getting them altered. "Too big" is always fixable - get someone who knows how to sew and have them taken in - *AND* you'll end up with scrap material for repairs in the future!

Now "too small" is another problem altogether....

Absolutely, they're a great basic resource and they often have some pretty good photos. :) Just saying, not all their information should be taken as "gospel" - though that seems to hold true for a lot of history related materials.

If you get a chance, see if there's any fine print on or inside the front and back cover that shows who put out the booklet. There were a lot of sewing booklets out in that time period because a lot of people actually still sewed and made their own clothes. "Sewing courses" and little sewi...

The dates in my originals on the medical page are either a date stamp, or where hand written they are done in the format 30.IX.44 etc. rather than 30.09.44 The typhus shots in mine are no more than 10 days apart, with some as soon as 5 days. I have seen both as far as date formats go. Weird on the ...

That's a very cool find - definitely something you don't see a lot. The last booklet that I've seen that included instructions for making BDM uniforms had instructions only for the skirt, and was a book sold to professional tailors who made custom uniforms. Did this booklet come with the patterns? I...

I can't speak about European events, but there are a lot of kids at US events doing various impressions. Usually the younger ones do civilian. There's one family that comes to events around here whose young'un has a shoe shine kit and he's shining shoes for the occupying forces (be they Americans or...

"Nazi Chic" is a very good book but be prepared for really DRY reading. Littlejohn's "The Hitler Youth" has a decent chapter on the BDM. Dr. Jutta Ruediger wrote an autobiography of her time in the BDM and as the national BDM leader called, "Ein Leben fuer die Jugend" t...

On a side note re: stamps ... if you don't have a large number of stamps at hand or don't want to have a load of different custom stamps made for the different units, replacement stamps, etc. you can "print" stamps from your computer. Scan a nice original stamp. Clean it up a bit. Replace ...
