Re: WHO MAKES A GOOD REPRO WINDJACKE?

It's been 9 years since the last post on this thread. Curious if there have been any new offerings for the Windjacke?

E-mailed Dennis at Lost Battalions. They no longer offer it.

Bergschuhe -- Mountain Boots for sale

I pair of rough-out black leather Swiss mountain boots. Rubber GRD/DAG soles sitting size 26-1/2 (US 8D). Internal stampings show STUCO -- which I believe is the maker. Plenty of tread left. Boots are pliable -- ie.. wearable. Six speed lace hooks.
$20 plus postage (and fees if using PayPal).

Re: China-made Bergmütze

Received the latest version of the mountain cap today. Lots of improvements. Biggest: the sizing issue appears solved. I ordered a 56-1/2 and my cap fits perfectly. Leather sweatband is increased in size from 30mm to 35mm and color is now a nice shade of reddish-brown. The cap stiffener is present. ...

Re: crawler tractors

Here's a nice link to a restoration of a 1936 Lanz tractor: http://www.twocylindervintage.com/home/tag/raupe Horrido! Patrick Pretty amazing those Lanz crawlers ran with a giant two-stroke engine! I was trying to match up the sprocket configuration of the image from the OP. This 58 Case 310 looks l...

Re: crawler tractors

I think the tractor in the wartime photo is possibly a Lanz or Fiat Raupenschlepper. Note the steering levers vs steering wheel.

Here's a 1964 Lanz.

Re: Hybrid-Bergmutze ?

Interesting. I've never seen an M-43 with a central seam before. Did the M42 have a central seam?

Re: China-made Bergmütze

Looks like the internal stiffener has made it onto the production version of the cap on the eBay listing.

Re: China-made Bergmütze

This is pretty much the ultimate Bergmütze that I would love to own. Munich depot contract cap, 1939. Photo via collector Ron C.

Re: China-made Bergmütze

FtrPlt - You've certainly done all GJ re-enactors a big favour by getting the vendor to update his patterns... I've just noticed that he's now listing two different types of wool EM Bergmütze - your modified version seems to be the cheaper of the two ! I appreciate your kind words. The real kudos g...

Re: Hybrid-Bergmutze ?

Is the underside of the visor covered in cloth or wool? The one photo from the front suggests wool. There appear to have been several versions of the contract/issue Bergmütze produced. This is personal theory and has evolved slightly over the years. ???? - 1936 I believe there was a very early patte...

Re: China-made Bergmütze

I probably have the same buttons you do -- orange-tan color with an inset brass fitting? I've not had an issue with mine .... yet. I'm working with a different vendor to get some original-style buttons made. The most common wartime button is made from a single piece and the attachment is simply dril...

Re: China-made Bergmütze

I've already replaced the buttons with steinnuß (no photos yet) and the cap has been put in hot water and dried to shrink it to a usable size. The wool and leather sweatband held up fine. My remaining suggested changes: - front stiffener - lining color to grey (more common color, IMO) - sweatband le...

Re: China-made Bergmütze

Here's the current version of the cap (top) compared to their original offering (bottom). As already described, just minor changes to the height of the ear flaps and front arms but they make a large visual difference.

Re: China-made Bergmütze

My repro Bergmütze arrived today so I'm now able to compare the old design with the newer, improved model. To be honest, the changes involved are minor, although noticable. Overall level of quality is pretty good. The wool is slightly lighter than I would expect to see in an original cap and is prob...
