Re: W&P 2012 - Predicatable Swipe at Axis Re-enactors...

Yes, but the RT people balanced that with Neily Baby's piece which was spot on the mark. "Happy snoozy fun time" I'm keeping that! But on the other hand, a serious and necessary point was made, and the RT journos kept it in. Would western journalists have done? I'm not so sure they would, ...

Yes, us too.

They're also dangerous - they often don't know what they're doing when dealing with highly unstable 70 year old ordinance and so they sometimes get a nasty (and terminal) surprise finding that it still has a bite! Karma's a bitch eh?

Re: Another swamp find - I.D needed please!

Just one important thing I want to say to everybody - I go on digs as a guest with my friends, who all have official and valid licences to carry out battlefield recovery from the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation, and indeed I am in the process of aquiring my own licence. When human remain...

Re: Another swamp find - I.D needed please!

I doubt it - the primer would have rotted out years ago - especially after being dunked in battery acid for cleaning. For the bullets I find I 'deactivate' all of them with a kinetic hammer. Well - here's the story. I'm a member of an official search group here in St Petersburg. If somebody comes he...

Gas Mask box

I went down to the woods a week ago and found this in the swamp. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y280/Medvedya/IMG_4112.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y280/Medvedya/IMG_4115.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y280/Medvedya/IMG_4114.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y280/Medvedya/IMG_4113...

Re: How to deal with the ignorant public.

I would have had an instant answer - "What the Hell was she expecting to see?" It's a multi period living history gig with a disproportionately large World War II section. My other halves great aunt was murdered by Einzatzgruppen near Luga and her grandfather was dragged off to Germany to ...

Re: WW2's affect on Russia

Well this was a puzzle! On one hand you said the Germans occupied an area in which the infrastructure, for the most part, had been substantially destroyed, and then summarised it as a failure. So after a few reads I picked up the gist of it which seemed to me; "Yes, the Soviets enacted the scor...

Re: WW2's affect on Russia

The sages of Stalingrad and Leningrad which saw the deaths of over 1.5 million alone in Leningrad, crime wise, it was very high in the cities IE steeling things from bombed out houses and so on Cannibalism was also a problem, so much that a Russian police even created a separate unit (Forgot the na...

Re: Russians..

The fact that there are photos at all would suggest that this is an official 'Otryad' search group.

There are strict controls these days in Russia about battlefield digging so any 'black' diggers who were souly out scavenging for financial gain wouldn't want to flag up attention by making photos.

I achieve this with the aid of magic beans - given to me by a kindly babushka who lives in a crooked izba outside Krasnodar.
