ID TAGS

Got my POW impression sorted out. Managed to pick up an original POW ID Tag from Stalag viiic (Sagan). Question how is it worn? There are 3 holes in tag, 2 on long side and 3rd on short. Is it hung round neck so that it can be snapped in half and top remains attached to body, or is it up to individu...

Re: Displays

Food for thoought indeed.... Having to do a serious and unplanned evaluation for 2010, not least of which, whether to continue, having just lost Roddy horse. My thoughts are look at showing the usual rather than the unusual. Perhaps concentrate on the mundane, not the spectactular, the reality for m...

Re: Is reenactment beneficial to the Heritage Industry?

Generally speaking yes. However...................................................
Often/sometimes we are guilty of distorting history, either by intent or by organisers/venues/re-enactors turning serious events into themed fancy dress parties. (think that chestnut has been done to death).

Re: German servicemen & pets

Interesting photos. I have a postcard sent in 1917 with the picture of a chap in uniform holding a cow with the caption that translates as "Lotte the darling of the company". I started a similar thread on Allied forum looking at the "aquiring " of larger animals and animals on the battle field in ge...

Re: Munition cart. Is it worth a punt?

Thanks for the information Jan.

In a poor light from a distance it could be passed off as a Pleskau 1. At least we could have some horse transport on the road. Will need to think about this one carefully, can I afford to spend about £400 on a vehicle that isnt really correct.

Think it's a Swiss one, is it to the same specification as a wehrmacht vehicle?

Re: "Lehrgang Pferdepflege"

I wish you would stop posting photos of this type. Your obvious high standards and research put so many of us to shame. What is the basic difference between the German and Swiss pattern of 4 wheeled ammo cart? A friend of mine has one as well as the 2 wheeled version on rubber tyres. He has said I c...

Re: Sappers WW1 GUN

WW1 is an interest of mine. My first thought was RE Tunnellers. Then seeing the date of manufacture I realised that most sapping under the enemy lines had largely finished in 1917 and the tunnelling coys were ivolved in other projects. I then thought local modification for trench raids. It would not...
