Re: Excerpts from Training manuals...

Thanks, Steve, for putting me on the track of that book. What of the Swiss Avalanche Rope (red?)...is that something that is available? Dumb question, since I could check myself...but since we last talked, back in 2013/14, I started working for the city...Stormwater dept, and in Florida, that is a v...

Re: Excerpts from Training manuals...

Found one! However, no image was available, and it was a reasonably priced paperback. I take it that it is a reproduction of a wartime manual? I would think so, since it is also listed on the GJ manuals list, here on the GJ forum...

Re: Excerpts from Training manuals...

Yes, I would appreciate any information on ropes made, that can be used without any embarrassing imagery resulting! I am also looking for the book mentioned.

Re: Excerpts from Training manuals...

This is training for my group, and not a photo fest, so the use of modern ropes, whether laid or kernmantle, is not an issue, other than for that of safety. This has no relation to P.E., and makes no pretense of that. This is more of taking years of mountain warfare training and experience, and putt...

GJ training manual illustrations/translations

Question...does anyone have scans of illustrations, and, or, translations from climbing related training books? I am setting up some skill training for my group. For safety's sake, contemporary ropes and harnesses/gear will be used, but, I wish to show them how things were actually done, for possibl...

Ice Pick covers for you!

Perhaps you have a "new" ice pick. They are great to have, but, if I stick it inside the rucksack, instead of between body and bag, will it tear anything, poke a hole through the bag? Not if you have the leather covers for pick and the adze! I have photos of the first set I made for a Swis...

Is anyone checking their members?

In two events this past 30 days, and I am seeing disturbing things that have been showing up over the past few years. Now farb is farb, but some seem almost to amazing to get by. Let us see: For one, 1956 pattern webbing on GIs. Mostly equipment suspenders, but a buttpack has come on the field. Also...

Re: Youchunhe 2008 rucksack

Stefan,
You are correct! I screwed up and noted it originally as a HIKI shop item. Thankfully, one can edit posts after the fact. Hmmm re-writing history, as it were. Just like obama!
Thank you for pointing it out my friend,
Mike

Youchunhe 2008 rucksack

I had noted that I had ordered one in another thread. It arrived and in good time as I will be able to take it to the field this weekend. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230878285158?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 If you are a purist, who like me shall be hoping for...

Re: Continuing thoughts on HIKI gera

Not to worry, I did not think you were knocking anything. At worst, I think write too much! I probably like hearing myself talk as well.. I guess I figured that the Ds were done up with water ops in mind, but did not think KM. I also like getting canteens a lot...have too many. But the straps do tak...

Suomi...new/old topic

Great gun!! Picked one up for my son, who has been wanting one for awhile now. Why? This is the funny part...he plays some first person WWII game (don't ask me, ...they me be a waste of time, but, all young kids who come up and ask about our weapons and such at public events know about all this from...

Re: HIKI Shop downers...

.....plus, they are flimsy, floppy things, like a dachshunds ears. No rigidity to them. You could let them hang down the back of your tunic, or hook them to your rucksack for nighttime movements. Beats the luminous tape "cats-eyes" by a mile!
