Re: Helmet varnish ?

I seem to remember reading they were painted in a satin gloss paint from factory. Initially without texturing added, which would give it mild shine. This was later changed where aluminium oxide was added to the paint to add texture.

Re: Some new builds (1/35th scale)

Where'd the pictures go? :?

I'm grounded by an ankle injury for a while and decided to buy some model kits after a very long time. Was hoping to use this thread as a guide to improving my painting skills!

Alex would do good to leave the forum in the hands of someone capable of making rational decision until whatever personal issues that are driving his current actions have been resolved.

The masses have likely been quiet because noone likes to board a trainwreck.

Re: Who hates sewing uniform insignia?

I hate it too, but mostly because I have destroyed my hands playing videogames (Diablo 2 and early CS Beta being the main culprits, as I would play them for 8+ hour stretches) when I was suffering from depression. Anything finicky now hurts my hands beyond measure, be it cluthing a needle or a small...

Kind of looks like someone has hacked up a Stahlhelm of some description to make a lookalike. "Epic fail" doesn't even begin to describe this abomination

Looks Dutch to me too. I have one I got from a colleague and it belonged to his father. Can't get to it at the moment to directly compare, but definitely looks like the one I have, straps and all.

I meant any kind of kit that might keep you warm in your Wolfgrabhüle really. Pullover, greatcoat, turtleneck from Mutti, gloves, scarf...The occasional reversible parka as well though right?

Re: German short boots

The vinegar and wire wool / metal shavings method of producing a dye has actually been around for hundreds of years and it was used on wood as well as leather.
