Adendum...
The knights crosses awarded to Fenet etc at the Battle of Berlin were, apparently, EKII's rigged on makeshift suspension loops. One source even claims Kruckenberg handed his over. I'll do some more digging for exact references.

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
Christ! I'm offline here for a couple of weeks and WWIII breaks out! I don't know if it is any help at all but I did some extensive research into the Charlemagne Division and found, in the various sources available, that the only references made to awards mentioned the ones that weren't available. T...

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
What period do you want the dog tags to represent? I had a conversation on this thread with Peiper about the composition. Who knows what the stamp would say on it. Some units had their own name embossed on the hand stamps, others did not. The French SS unit changed name and designation several times...

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
Nice tag Peiper.
Storm56,
You and your mate should swap the MP40 and MP44, and the boots. He could say he is with the Berlin Leibstandarte guard battalion, therefore much more likely to have jack boots, helmet cover and smock. Get some black piped shoulder boards and you're there.

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
Gash, The Gefreiter chevron would be worn underneath the armshield. So the arm eagle at the top, then the armshield, then the chevron. Each with a fingers width between them. Specialist trade badges were worn either above the arm eagle or on the forearm in the vicinity of where the cufftitle would b...

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
Hi Gash, I like your impressions and you've shown some good efforts, however, Peiper is correct with his comments about the cufftitle and the parade drill. The cufftitle was only worn in very, very limited numbers and from 1945 only. Initially it was issued by brigade fuhrer Krukenburg on a very lim...

Good luck with this Jean Paul,
When I get back from la guerre d'Indochine we will certainly have to put a photoshoot together.

Re: 33rd Waffen SS Charlemagne
Guys, By the time the French 'sturmbattalion' went to Berlin there were plenty of guys with pea dot suits. These were mostly the men from the 57th Batl/Regt who had volunteered to go. They were also mostly veterans of the SS Sturmbrigade Frankreich (so got preferential treatment over the rest). The ...
