Re: Finished Funker Station

Fantastic display! Really gets the feeling that you're ready to start relaying messages and stuff is going to start happening!

Re: Jäger uniform

Going off of photos found in "Shadows of War - A German Soldier's Lost Photographs of World War II" (photos by Willi Rose, edited by Thomas Eller) of the 97. Jäger division on the Ostfront beginning with Barbarossa, most photos show them wearing bergmützen with the edelweiss badge (yes, I ...

Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags

Nice work! I've made some like these too, I hand-stenciled the markings with outdoor paint though.

Re: "F" and lightning bolt banners on roadsigns for Radio un

Sorry it took me a while to post, been busy and haven't logged on in a couple weeks. I've found better info and good dimensions and description of an original since my original post, I've sold some about a year ago and the buyer was quite pleased. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff46/parsonsjacke...

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box (1st attempt)

Very very nice! Good job.

Would you be willing to share final plans/dimensions for the box? I don't have a zf4 but still a cool little piece to make...

Thanks for posting!

Re: Hiki DAK gear?

Sean, I'm not trying to play a game of semantics or one-upmanship. I'm just trying to say the material is glaringly not standard WWII material. Similar to material at http://www.angeltrim.com/images/Thread/ts15-pylime.jpg Only WWII item I can think of that comes close is a "vest" marker I ...

Re: Hiki DAK gear?

Well, I'm assuming it was NOT originally dayglo neon yellow/green.

Cotton, linen, or maybe rayon, I could understand. The color was totally, absolutely too bright, though. Like road-work crew or traffic cop vest neon.

Re: Hiki DAK gear?

For what it's worth, To anyone considering Hiki shoulder boards, I just received a pair. I had ordered jäger green piping on bottle green boards. Received neon yellow/green on bottle green wool. Neon synthetic piping. Here is the review I posted, in case he "forgets" to post it on his site...

Re: Selecting an unit to re-enact

Regarding using HBT/DAK uniform, it was used plenty in Italy and the southern front in Russia, and pops up randomly anywhere in 1945 as things fell apart. HBT shows up more often than you'd think in Russia, even a few rare instances of the white drill uniforms being worn IIRC. They got dirty pretty ...

Re: Selecting an unit to re-enact

askhati, interesting concept, i must admit i am very impressed with your creativity, and i can totally understand your logic and reasoning, but IMHO it would be better to go with an historical unit, not an invented one. an inherent part of doing German is the "associated negative history."...

Re: German Reenactors Handbook

My recommendation, being primarily a visual learner, would be to have a significant number of reference photos for each unit you are interested in for each engagement/battle/period you are interested in. Know how to pick your unit out in photos when possible (distinctive insignia, vehicle markings, ...

Re: Great Service by GD43

I also just received a Bergmütze from GD43 and must echo the first post... Took 5 weeks from payment to receipt of cap, very nice quality, high craftsmanship, good material and stitching. The badge is a little tinny, but it was only an extra $5 and not bad. Would definitely highly recommend their ca...

Re: aged gear.

Yes and no. This is a fairly common debate, but at the risk of beating a dead horse... Things should look lived-in, but not 80 years old. If you're portraying anyone who's been in the field for say, even a week, think about it. That's 21 times the mess kit has been used. 7 days worth of marching in ...
