Re: Second Battle Group

While I am a regular visitor I haven't posted on the site for some time but I feel I must add my opinion on this recent attempt by a 'media hack' to bring Axis re-enactment in general and the very successful SBG in particular, into public disrepute. The last poster is correct and long after this 'pa...

Re: fusprech f

And we were not disappointed. Three days of rain-free, sunny weather, and the 'ol BBQ and the 'black stuff' to keep the night chill away.

As we packed up yesterday (6th June), still no sign of the invasion fleet! 8) Surreal!

Re: Czech Hedgehogs

Great Job! Any chance of posting the measurements/demensions so we can make up a few? mauser98 We used the same dimensions as the OP above indicates and made a 2/3rd size as initially we the same problem getting 7' ply. We found these dimensions work well and 'hedgehogs' are easily transported. The...

Re: Czech Hedgehogs

Excellent work here, look very robust and some good ideas on increasing the 'ageing' effect of the props. We made about 6 for last years Duncannon show and found they do add to the visual effect on the battlefield. Need a bit of TLC when dismantled as 'bits and bolts' tend to 'go missing'. Couple of...

Good luck Dermot with the new venture, the 'ol 222 was missed at the Curragh show last weekend. Hope to see you at Duncannon.

Re: WW2's affect on Russia

Nah - that's not really what happened. It was chaotic but Soviet civilians were indeed mass evacuated (approx 17-25 million between 1941 and 1942) from areas that were about to fall to the Germans - this is born out in records;.... I don’t want to take this thread off track but will just point out ...

Re: WW2's affect on Russia

When the German army retreated from Russia, they basically destroyed every thing Blew up phone lines Ripped up railway lines Destroyed houses And so on, Hope this helps :) I rarely get involved in threads about WW2 atrocities but as this is an academic exercise by the original poster I feel that, i...

Re: Why is This GOP House Candidate Dressed as a Nazi?

Going purely by the juristical side one is allowed to reenact the Waffen SS if it is for educational reasons (in connection with museums for example) or film and fotoshootings. Kind regards, Beate Very true, I can verify this as one who has worn Waffen-SS uniform in Germany as recently as June 2008...

Re: The last Battle on British soil (1940 )

I used to win bets about the last battle on British soil in years gone by. I understood that the last battle fought on British soil was at Ballinamuck (Co Longford, Ireland) on the 8/11/1798. And before anyone says ' but that was in Ireland' - It is worth remembering that Ireland was regarded as Br...

Re: hessen antique read before you buy

For what its worth, in my opinion the uniform looks pretty neat. I also understood that this was the 'cut' of German uniforms at the time, commonly known today as the 'English cut' - high cut armholes, sleeves just short on the wrist, narrow fit. Forgot to say I don't know much on how to hold a smok...

Re: The last Battle on British soil (1940 )

Another gem from PG - must pass this on to some of the lads in the allied group here who re-enact WW2 London Irish Rifles.
One of them is interviewed in the Paul Merton visit to Duncannon show in 2009.

Nothing like a few pints after a hard days campaigning! 8)
