Re: Attached personel to the BFC?

You seem to have forgotten Wilhelm "Bob" Rössler the unit interpreter. All Germans who served on the staff of the BFC, wore full BFC insignia from 20th April 1944 onwards. I would be interested in additional information about Fred Stürmer, can Schwartz Vogel offer a source? Cheers, Bill. ...

Re: BFC helmet....

Ammo issued to BFC during POW camp visits. The BFC were isuued side arms, but only three rounds per man. This was so that they could protect themselves if things turned nasty during a POW recruiting drive. It was reasoned that three rounds would be enough before the guards could come to their rescu...

Re: BFC helmet....

That's true Schwartz Vogel , I agree but the guy who showed me the helmet said he bought it from an auction of stuff from the C I, I must admit your right about not having to use Dunkirk kit but then look at the U boat crews being kitted out in uniforms from Dunkirk .anyway that's going off topic ....

Re: BFC helmet....

Hi Bill thanks for getting back to me on this one. I assume you use the box standard German coal scuttle type, when re enacting? Nomad, interesting concept, but didn`t the Channel islands fall right at the beginning of the war, when Germany was its strongest, and wouldn`t have needed to use British ...

Hel Peninsula

Hi Guys,

I`m trying to find out a bit more about what went on, on Hel Peninsula, particuarly during the German retreat. There seems to be scant information on the net (or I`m looking in the wrong place), to that end can some point me in the right direction, or supply me with a bit more info?

BFC helmet....

Bill, I see on your website, that you have a `tommy` helmet with German markings on it. Is it thought that the BFC wore such helmets, or would they have worn the German type?

Re: Becoming an ex-medic

Would be interested to hear how you got round this one?

I`m not expert on the German Army, but could an idea be that he was a medic pre war, left the service, but joined up again with his local unit, when the war broken out?

Re: SS Wiking (Viking)

Obscure details I`m afraid. I was under the impression that there might be various sub units, along the same lines as the BFC attached to Viking. But it appears that the although manned by none Germans, wheren`t in fact named such, if that makes sense? Thanks for the links anyway.
