Hi Mat ,
Re the lantern - well , I can't see too much U.S stuff being used - look at the contact between U.S forces and GJ , pretty minimal . However , it's a 1908 pattern - could have been kriegs Beute from EK1 ? Private purchase prior to the outbreak of war ? It's possible ....

Danke Steve, that's what I was thinking, it's a crackin bit o kit, I thought the 'windows' would be glass but they are a very thin plastic (mica ?) saves on weight I guess.

Servus Bergkamerad Matt,

Do you have any photos of your US lantern that you can post? Would like to see what it looks like.

I use a folding period Swiss lantern for reenactments and have a German 'Alpina' folding lantern in my collection. I'll have to shoot some photos of both.

Here's the 'Alpina' in it's pouch...lower right of the photo:

And the Swiss folding lantern is at the bottom left of this photo:

It didn't come with a pouch, so I went to the local surplus shop and bought a suitable looking canvas bag with 2 ready made pouches, one for the lantern, the other for fork candles (thanks x2 Ronnies ;-) ) or more if needed.
