In spite of fact being an WW2 reenactment group; my group (31 Infanterie Regiment) was asked by Park of Military History to prepare an episode from year 1991, when Slovenia had it's short (and fortunately not very bloody) war for independence, for 20th anniversary.
We decided to reenact a barricade where Slovenian Home Defense stopped stop Jugoslav National Army (JNA) tank. We were equipped with T84 tank, fully operational, but we didn’t start the engine (because of the audience). All JNA soldiers were equipped with microphones as negotiations between TO and JLA, and talking between soldiers were vital part of the performance. (for the first time in our career of reenactment we had faced such a challenge).
Our colleague, who played a JLA officer, was brilliant (as being indeed a reserve lieutenant of former JLA) he maintained the spicy language of an officer brilliantly. I was in the role of TO officer, demanding a surrender of the tank (it was very funny indeed, almost feel as been a recruit again). When surrender was turned down, the fight start; after some shots of small army, tank fired in nearby house, however been only seconds after destroyed by TO. Wounded officer and two soldiers were taken to captivity.
Between the audience, which was very delighted, we had a prime minister of the 1st Slovenian government and present Chief of general staff (among others). The performance was so successful that we were asked to prepare even bigger event in autumn.
