Faces of war
Just something to get us thinking I thought that it was worth posting some photos of the faces of war !
The Idea is that we will post some photos showing the strain on the faces even moments of joy
here are some from my units web page and my own collection

Re: Faces of war
Nice topic Franz and some great pics. Gives us all a good idea how to try and replicate the dirt and grime you'd pick up on the battle field. Sometimes it looks like people have 'Blacked' up or are getting ready to go on a night raid raher than replicate battle fatigue.

Re: Faces of war
Franz if a rep system existed I would rep you for these last photos , those poor lads are mere youngsters - whoever put them in uniform deserves their a**es kicked.
What has made this thread good - the pohotos have by and large been of the nameless and unknown men who had to stick it out - a fate common to the men of all sides - only the uniforms were different , the underlying experiences of fatigue , disgust and utter war weariness are etched on them all.
Reenacting may be fun , lighthearted ,serious at times but in no way can it be remotely compared to what these men lived through - we can never begin to believe that it might.
Above from ATB's Normandy / D-Day Then and Now Vol. 2 , and rfomPrunnell's History of WW2 which has travelled very well since the 1960's , I cut my teeth reading this when I was about 8 much to my father's great surprise.
