what did the tie-chord eyelets look like on original gb anoraks...were they metal reinforced, or just stiching reinforced?
and what was the positioning of the hood tie holes...high or low?

Reading this thread and a couple of others, it seems that Spearhead improved their Windjacke alot a couple of years ago.. Are they still quite good and also would anyone know if Hiki has improved his also?

would the strap on the rear of the jacket have wrapped around the front to secure the jacket on in strong winds as the repro one I have is very baggy when left buttoned up around the back.....Or do I need to undo and re-sew buttons and button holes to make it taught around the back?

on a serious note though was it meant to go around the front like a belt if needed or is it just gash manufacturing?

So far I've never seen it go around the front, I guess you could do it, but it wouldn't do much, the jacket should be more tight fighting, just the manufactures design them more for the beer bellies than the lean, mean fighting machines that the Germans were back then. I leave mine as it is as I normally have my belt on anyway.

The two buttoned belt to the rear of the jacket is simply to tighten it - it was a common mode of doing so on many items of clothing at the time ( eg Great coat ) , and still is on long coats and jackets - it is not a belt per se , and should not be worn as such !

The voluminous size - well , the originals were wind proof ( unlike the repros ) , so size , in this case , wouldn't matter . It would have been worn over equipment , so it needed to be on the large side . I do not believe they were " general issue " , but were a specialist item given when needed ( high altitude / severe temperatures ? ) , so would have tended toward the large ?

Yes, the Windjacket was intended to go over the tunic, therefore it would be made larger, however the repros today do seem too large even when buying a small...

Below is me wearing a small over my M36 tunic, it was still baggy on me as you can see it bunching up and one side hung low because of this...I had a lot of it bunched up in the back, if I didn't wear my belt, it would really look like a potato sack.

However Stabsfeldwebel Halle is right, it's just the repros that are off.

The belts obviously too long , that will need adjusting - I'd be pretty cross if someone sent me that

However , the overall " baggy " nature of the jacket itself isn't wrong - the book I've just bought has a picture of a group of GJ Pioneers standing on a wooden bridge thats under construction , the Windjacke they're wearing are pretty much all " big and baggy " .

A lot of comments over the years and of cause its possible to give an opinion about ones own jacket, but difficult to know the whole market.
Which jacket would come out on top regarding quality of material material, colour, quality of tailoring and close to the original?

It's only my opinion , but none are any good . I've tried to find fabric similar to my original but so far , no luck ..

However , I have dyed my ( Spearhead ? ) Windjacke using Dylon dye - two things ;

Firstly , the colour is much improved , I used olive green . It will be better when it fades a bit .

Secondly , it changed the texture of the material - it became rougher , less " soft " , more as it should be ( though I doubt it's any more water proof , I bet it's more wind proof ) .

The result ? I've got a Hiki shop one on the way , it's receiving the same treatment , I'll let you know how it goes . If someone would do it for me , I could send the pictures and they could post them ?
