Some famous individual once said that no plan survived first contact with the enemy - Market Garden was one such operation - a very simple idea which became very complex given the nature of its objectives , the resources , limitations and the energy of the enemy.
With Market Garden's failure the drive from Normandy ran out of steam logistics being a problem which could not be overcome - little wonder that Eisenhower demanded that Montgomery clear the approaches to Antwerp.
