Re: Pet hates?
Bling Yep thats No 1 on my hate list you know the guys I am talking about you see them at shows with every award that the Third Reich could award . If you ask them they say I am showing a Battle hardend Combat soldier . To me the guy below is a Battle hardend soldier
2 reenactors ? who dont wear the kit right and dont give a shit about the fact Yet some of them want you to give respect to them if they are a higher rank

Re: Pet hates?
Crumbs! That old chestnut, rank and re-enacting, a nasty mix.
Why cant people get into their heads that outside of their unit rank means jacksh*t. It means even less if you dont have a unit.
This is not the real deal, only with consent does it have any sway.

Re: Pet hates?
that's a good photo franz ... love the half torn adler.
however look at his cigarette. That's a lot of ash there, he must have been in that pose for at least 4 minutes! Would love to see the shots the photographer made that didn't make it to 'canon'.
Notice also his helmet. painted white, then painted grey, with the grey all scratched off to reveal patches of white.
Nice. It's good to see a pic that makes you think about stuff

Close enough?Pug42 wrote:1) Goatee beards
2) People shooting MG42s from the hip
I don't doubt for a second that Franz will dig up a genuine WW2 photo of a Deutsche soldat wearing a goatee AND firing an MG42 from the hip!! (the soldat in question would have to be built like an ox to do it though!)
Can't think of 2 at the moment, but one that does get to me, I know it's only a small thing and I know from experience I have been guilty of many on my re-enactment journey, bayonet in the wrong way round!
Re: Pet hates?
Reguarding beards and the KM.... my uboot vet friend Edgar told me that they were allowed to keep their beard for 24 hours upon arriveing back at home port. After that period it must be shaved off. He too had a beard but that was due to saveing water for more important things like drinking and food prep. He told me he can't describe the smell of everyone when they returned to base. But while on board he said you don't notice the smell because everyone smelled the same, same applies in the field. You get so used to the smells that it no longer bothers you

A British vet once told me you could always tell when there were Americans near their front positions (no offence ).
Basically you could tell they were there from 50ft away by the smell of the soap and tobacco

Re: Pet hates?
A pet hate for me is seeing someone wearing their insignia incorrectly, there's nothing worse than seeing some muppet
with their breast eagle on the wrong side or their helmet decals on back to front

I know it's one below the belt, but it was an open goal! I just couldn't let that one go.

Jack=give up when it starts to hurt (im only a reenactor i dont want to run with that mg42)
Mong it=a general state of being idle in attitude or authenticity (i think this bundesqueer laffete to be correct! because it only cost 99pence and it has 3 legs and is german )
two examples i have heard (or at least my view of what was said) i am sure any of you that know me can imagine my reaction

You noticed that to, did you see that he sew his Infantry Abzeichen tight on his uniform, so it wouldn't get lost?Alex wrote:that's a good photo franz ... love the half torn adler.

Ah... yes. The latter state of affairs is sometimes referred to as the "X yard rule" insofar that it looks OK from a distance.ssparatrooper wrote:Jack=give up when it starts to hurt (im only a reenactor i dont want to run with that mg42)

I'll keep quiet on the former as I use a bed with sleeping bag in the back of a lorry (all original, however...!).
