Consider yourself on Open Invite Mark - The Famous Five (as pictured) would make a brilliant addition and if I can coax a piece of relevant armour out of them I will.

David, it's a shame you 'retired' after Dien Bien Phu. There are plenty more battles to fight...

We're returning to Indochina with the next photoshoot in Spring 2012...
Thanks for the return invite Mark, had a great time, good to catch up with everyone. Looking forward to the next installment.
Bovington mmmmmmm not been there for ages

It's a French FM 24/29 Light Machine Gun, produced by Manufacture d'Armes Chatellerault. Chambers a 7.5mm round. It was based on the workings of the Browning Automatic Rifle, but top loading. The Czech Brno ZB26 was based on this weapon. Used by France from 1924 right up to 1958 when it was replaced by the belt-fed AA52.

Really nice photos depicting a very interesting period, both historically and equipment-wise : ) Do you have any recommendations on good reference books or sites regarding the gear? Would be interesting to look at : )

There is a series of books by the French photographer Marc Flament. They are photo studies of the 3e RPC in Algeria. He also did one for French conscripts there too. He co authored them with Jean Larteguy, Marcel Bigeard and Michel le Cornec. For written sources Alastair Horne's 'A Savage War Of Peace' is the way to go. For gear go on ebay or find it at militaria shows.
