Scandinavian Clothing worn by the Germans

Post by Heeresbergführer »

Servus Hohennordkameraden,

After a posting about the Finnish Akja (pull-sled) and how the Germans adopted it, I was asked to post other items that the Germans adopted on the Eismeerfront.

One of my favorites is the knitted wool mittens with Reindeers, Snowflakes, and other designs:

I thought that as well. The sam browne he's wearing looks Finnish, though. Possibly he's one of the Swedish Volunteer Corps that fought in Finland. Intriguing.

Yes he looks to be Swedish from the Hat and snow camo smock , the photo may have been taken near Tornio as there is a boarder crossing there from Finland to Sweden and the Germans were also based in this town in wartime
I have seen some photos of a Norwegian officer with a cap and badge some what similar but the guy is more likly a swedish boarder guard not swedish army
anyway back on topic

Grüß Di' Kameraden,

During the Norway campaign at Narvik, displaced Navy Sailors, from their sunken ships, were turned into Infantrymen and can be seen wearing a hodgepodge of uniforms and equipment from the army, navy, air force, and captured Norwegian items:

Swedish Fur Coats were also used by the Germans:

It was very close that the danish SS volounteers were going to wear danish army uniforms.
But the military leadership thought the danish uniforms looked too much like the russian ones at a distance, that they rejected the idea.
