Helmet Camouflage database

Post by Sheikh Al Stranghi »

Post your examples of (of course authentic) helmet camouflage here, please with a source (if possible) and the time period used.

I'll start off:

Image

Wochenschau, December 1944. To me it looks like a cut-up German net, not allied. The knots in the net are too big for anything allied I have seen so far. The issue helmtarnnetz was introduced in 1942. (More info needed) Not to be confused with the post-war BGS helmet net; which is this one: http://hem.bredband.net/runmat/pics/de/ ... 53-net.jpg <--- totally wrong.

Edit; August 10th, 1942 to be precise.

Very common, especially in the early years often seen on photographs:

Correct.

A good photo of the early version of a helmet cover, not one that has been put on backwards.

Well we could both be totally wrong Paul
My thinking on going with the photo though is the construction of it, it's not the usual 5 panel common cover that we know and love and it seems to fit the shape of the steel pot nicely, unlike if you put one of the later ones on backwards.
I do understand what you mean about the frayed part though, although I'm not sure if the front of a helmet would fray the cover right to the rocker clip?

i totaly agree with you john,it fits the helm perfectley,it does (nt) have more than a look of one that has been put on back to front to be honest with you.

:? Well no you don't
A helmet cover placed wrongly won't fit nicely.
