Ah yes, good old 6006. Thats what I have been using- the Zeltplane.com sprays seem to work beautifully. And you get a nice thick layer if you spray it a half dozen times or so with a rub down after the third.

That's what I was shooting for. You can see some traces of the original apple green buried underneath the whole thing, and then textured winter coat, and then the final outer layer. I wanted to make it look like the helmet had been through a winter or two, and been "updated" as time went along.

Version 1.2 - a little more mud and some wire. I think it helps.

Looks good man...I like the multi period effect of a few coats of paint. It kinda adds a "history" to the piece. Now if it matches your soldbuch in regards to campaign and paint..........max kudos!!!!

Nice lid made - well done. I personally feel that mud is good on helmets.

Do you have another for 'best'?

No other helmets at the moment. (At least no other German helmets.) Eventually there will be other projects, but I've still got a few more random things on the list before I get to that point.

Great Lid !!...... looks really well skirmished,...seen plenty of action. The way you have achieved this makes it look a very convincing. All too many you see have that " you know someone has tried to age it" look.

It was a 12 gauge galvanized wire that I found at the local hardware store. I stripped off the zinc and cold blued it.

Here are my FJ lids- first is an ATF Cassino job- I have since sold this helmet. Its single decal tan spray over green.

Here is my current lid- a Deepeeka made helmet which I am very happy with. It has a nice thick coat of Zeltplane.com RAL6006 on it and is mildly weathered. I will let nature take its course with this one as far as wear goes. the eagle is a dry transfer off white. The liners position make the helmet shell sit too high on these helmets, but I have since re-drilled the mounting holes on the liner aluminium to lower it into the helmet by about a centimetre and it fixed it no worries. It sits better now than in the pic below.

No real idea, Herr Sheik! I would guess around the 1939/40 mark? I believe it came in about the same period as the M40 helmets, replaced the "apple" green of the early 1935 helemts.
Early LW FJ lids were blue grey I believe as well, then changed to grey green 6006 around the similar time. I may be wrong, but thats what I have gone by all these years!

If someone can clarify this we would all appreciate it. Not just by opinion, but if there is a set of orders or similar to state the change, then its conclusive.
