Tarnjacke / Camo smock - pockets

Post by Urwaldjaeger »

Was there ever an early or mid early model of the SS camouflage smock
without any pockets or openings. I have spotted a repro item from germany
missing that. Is this a poor fake or accurate to an origin?

As far as I'm concerned there are only 3 "Styling" variations of the Waffen-SS camo smock.

The earliest pattern to be commonly issued, often referred to as the M-38 was designed to be worn 'over' the combat equipment and had two vertical slits at the front for access, it also had an elasticized neck, a small square placket at the bottom of the neck closure was used to reinforce the base, and was characteristic of the M-38 smock.

A gradual shift away from the tautness of the elastic used in the neck after 1939 resulted in the production of smocks without elasticized necks by the end of 1940 - the M-40 pattern.

In 1942, modifications to the M-40 pattern saw pockets added to the front, replacing the vents, and loops for foliage attached to the shoulder area - the M-42

Aside from the many camo variations and the use of HBT during 1943, due to a shortage in cotton duck material, I have never seen any evidence of any other pattern.

This example looks to be a type 2 smock and there are no known examples of type 2 in palm pattern

also all the books say the type 1 had the slits in the body originally to access the ammo pouches

and type 2 early had straight skirt pockets and latter sloped skirt pockets

shame as its a nice print but just wrong :(

Thank's all for good inputs.
I agree about the good print and it looks as this
"schlupfjacke" could be a home "field" made bastard. :?

if you look carefully on the first picture you can see that this is infact the type 1 palm smock and the slits are on the far left and right of the smock
they are hard to make out at first but they are there
i have on of these for sale if you want one.
p.m me like new

If you look hard you could see that the jacket is mounted on two diffrent uniform jackets
