Common abbreviations for Feldgendaemerie
Hi, I was going to make some clothing and equipment labels as seen here http://dererstezug.com/clothingequipmentlabels.htm but was wondering what some correct abbreviatons of feldgendaemerie were used during the war? Also on the same note which ones would have been used in the soldbuch and on the erkennungsmarke.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Feldgend.
F. Gend.
F.G.
On dogtags the one that would best fit (no overall standard in abbreviation here).
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... n/FG-R.htm
note: recruits during the war were recruited into a stammkompanie, ersatz kompanie or rgt (heer) or ausb u ers. komp. or rgt. (ss), so recruits during the war would have received dogtags stamped accordingly. eg. 4./Kp. I. Ers. Btl. 110
recruits before the war woul have had the stamp of their Field unit in theis dogtag, e.g. 3./pz.-rgt. 5

so if you wanted a dogtag made up from before the war started:
2./Feldgend.-Abt. 501
2./F.G.-Abt. 501
2./F. Gend.-Abt. 501
one from during the war
1./F. Gend. Ers. Abt. 3
the first number denotes the number of the kompanie. the abteilungen all had 3 kompanien (normally)
of course, you could be recruited in an entirely different unit and then transfered to the FGs later, in which case, you would keep your initial dogtag. or you could have lost your dogtag and got a new one made in your field unit.
soldbuch: same as for the hundemarken, afaik.

on second google:
the FGs belonged to the POLIZEI, so they had different soldbuecher.

The variations I have on original dog tags are:
FG
Feld. Gend. (the most common)
Feldgend.
Feldg.
FGend.
From a training/replacement perspective there were 7 replacement regiments and also 2 training battalions. The latter, however, refers to the training staff, rather than the trainees.
Also bear in mind that the FG assigned to replacement/training units were not themselves being trained!

Here are 2 of mine, both from Feld Gend. Trupp 82 (what are the chances of that, then?!). Top one was obtained from a dealer on eBay I've used before, the lower one from a dealer in the US. The lower one is also interesting as it has the Division on it as well.

I'm not 100% au fait with Lufty tags - did they just have a serial number on, the same as FJR ones?katz wrote:So a Tag for someone in say the FG unit with 12. Lw.-Feld-Div. L. would be what?
