Fur parkas

Post by Oberleutnant Ulrich »

I was wondering how out of place it would be for an OFFICER to wear one of either of these parkas during winter re-enactment, which would be the more common of the two parkas?

It would not be out of place for an officer to wear one ,I think there is a photo of Paul Hauser wearing one.The 'half closure' are the early version and the true 'Kharkov'parka, the full button version is the later one.John(I have a SMW full button, real rabbit fur and I wear it in the winter as an ordinary coat, warmest coat I've ever had! )

I'm thinking about getting one for winter, for both uses, reenacting and daily wear. The rabbit für look better but I don't like the giant hood on the back to be flopping around. The sheepskin one has a much better looking hood in regards to size I find...so I guess I'll take that one.

As a Heer Officer or an SS officer? SS units were issed them en mass so the Officer would have got them the same as the men. But not Heer units as a rule?

Heer of course ;)

But I would assume if they were issued en masse to the SS units and not having a distinct SS distinction, it wouldn't be hard for a Heer officer to get his hands on one? I know Heer Feldgendarme were able to get their hands on them....

That is correct, good and bad at the same time...it won't fall out through age and wear, but still won't have the original feel to it...

The SMW ones are lush. Very warm. Have slept rough outside in mine no bother.

A Heer Officer with an SS Parka wouldn't really be portraying the norm rather the exception.

Ah, but they weren't designated to the SS only, it just seems that the SS got them in mass, where Heer was more to the favoured men.

SMF?

I bet you it's not made in the USA and supplied by the same supplier that Barry gets them from...
