Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
I think, if this is built as a firing replica then I believe it would be illegal in the UK, however if it is built in a similar fashion to most blank mortars (i.e. will only take blank rounds and has a hatch at the base) then it should be ok.

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
The listing on the website describes it as an 'inert replica' so I guess it should legal.
Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
If that's the case , what are the regs for turning it into a blank firer ? It's a fabulous repro , would be a shame if it didn't " fire " .

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
unless you cut hatch in the base that would allow a dumy round to be removed, I would say no, this would be a live weapon if such a conversion was made, a replica would have to be made in such a way that such a conversion would not be possible (thats why as far as i am aware, most blank firing mortars are custom jobs, they cant ever be able to use a live round) Not something i have ever come accross mind you, so there may be a loophole, but i aint sure how the law stands about converting an inert/replica weapon into one that can fire, could well fall under the same section that covers converting a deac.

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
Only thing I could think off for this would be a timed charge...but then you don't want to have it being fumbled with...

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
The mortar we had for a while had a firing pin at the bottom , solid metal " rounds " able to have shotgun blanks inserted , and , as Johankrieg mentioned , a sliding " door " to remove the " bomb " after it had gone off . Would be a shame to cut that lovely mortar up though

.
The answer would be to have a removable display tube , remove and then swap it with the hatched blank fire tube.
After battle or fire demo , replace with the original display tube.
I fabricated a few last year , great for display , and easy to field and simulate firing a round.
The item illustrated in this thread is a fine replica , but shame it doesn't go bang for the money.

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
Hi Guys,
This is a 100% legal at the EU countries, we have sent to UK, Poland and Germany.
is very difficult to change the mortar to make blank firing, you need a lot of experience in the metal. The tube is made in two pieces, bottom is solid and the top is empty. All axes are moving.
We and other costumers, use big firecrackers and introduced inside the tube for similate the firing.
Best regards,
Wehrmacht-es

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
dont like the idea of putting firecrakers down a metal tube, H&S nightmare. with the manner of construction I cant see how this could be converted to a blank mortar.

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
If the existing tube can be removed , or fabricated to be removable , then a replacement , blank fire tube can be inserted.
Easy enough to do , with suitable BF side vented and pinned rounds.
Firing pin is certainly not advisable in the tube !
The rounds do the work , not the tube.
Just my thoughts ......

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
Be great for blank fire battles. Big box of TLSFX mortar rounds and a tube liner and you're sorted...

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
Those tlsfx rounds are great. My jaw dropped first time i let one off. I expected a *phut* and a few meters out of it.....

Re: Mortar Granatwerfer 36
You can make a new tube and swap them over. Make the new tube with a door on it that you open to remove the fired round. Firing pin is spring loaded on one of these. Use a 2 inch parachute illumination round as the charge holder and a 38special blank as the bang.
My BF one of these is somewhere in the UK, i dont know who has it now, but it was great fun at private battles years ago
