Hi

Wondering whether anyone came help. Converting a Oerlikon gunsight box to a 'German' box to store my kit in at events.

The box I have had to glue in places as small pieces of wood had broken, but the box is solid.

Would like to paint it camo green which the Wehermacht would have used and place a eagle stencil on it so it looks the part.

So the question is would standard British army paint do for the colour and where could I get some and the stencil, as I have had a look around but having problems sourcing the paint.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Regards

Eberhard

I recommend you go to your local specialist car paint supplier, and they should be able to do a 400ml spray can of RAL 6006 in matt (Feldgrau) - as most WW2 equipment is painted field grey right up until the end of the war, with RAL 7028 replacing it from 43 onwards. This is for metal, with suitable red oxide primer.

RAL 6006 is still in the modern RAL listing (the difference between current spec and wartime spec isn't worth worrying about) whereas RAL7028 (dunkelgelb) is not in the modern list and has to be matched to a sample, or bought from specialist WW2 paint stockists.

If it is a wooden box, you can get tins of RAL 6006 mixed up at hardware stores that offer paint mixing, in eggshell. I get mine from B&Q! A dark grey primer works well.

Hope that helps! I wouldn't be too keen on the eagle myself, a stencilled name for the box contents (use DIN font for lettering style) would be better?
