Photos look good and I had a look at your website too.

The SSTK units were tough soldiers, a friend of mine served at Demjansk
with the Totenkopf Division (I knew him as a fellow stamp collector)
but he would sometimes talk about the war of an evening over a beer or two.

Keep up the good work, Willi.

Genosse, you may want to get your sewing kit out and sort that! ;)

Excellent pictures. Although the amount of matching camoflauge(a common thing within many groups, I know!) doesn't do much for me. Excellent none the less.

Thanks, Willi.

Yes, they were indeed tough men, I have yet to have the pleasure of speaking with a Totenkopf veteran, although I would jump at the chance to!

And it was my smock I loaned to the guy too! Oh well, things like that happen at tacticals, especially when there is sharp rubble everywhere. At least my experience in reenacting has taught me how to sew!

Yes, we do have alot of matching camo, however there is a method to our madness. Most of the guys are working on early war kits using Plane tree, some of the older guys in the group like to do the mid-war thing using Oak-A. The reason we all chose to go with similar patterns, is because for most of the war SSTK recieved all of it's camoflauge clothing from one place, Dachau. If you look at photos of TK, you will notice they have quite a bit of uniformity. Most of the guys wear Plane Tree smocks until after Kursk, where you start seeing some variance.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! This is our first year together, and we have a long way to go! But we're getting there..

I absolutely understand your use of predominantly early war smocks in planetree - that wasn't what I was getting at. It's the helmets matching smocks absolutely perfectly, and them matching the rest of the units. When you consider on a genuine helmet cover and smock, its not unusual to have 2-3 different shades of the same pattern(or an entirely different pattern!) on various parts of the construction of the smock/cover, the chances of your helmet cover matching your smock, and for them to match your kameraden.....

Just my 2p, but I'm a mix and match freak when it comes to camoflauge.

Just an observation, not a complaint - your pictures are excellent.

Ah! I see what you are saying. I have thought about that too, unfortunatley there is a small number of vendors who sell correct Plane Tree items, so there is alot of uniformity. Hopefully one day someone other than SMW and the Chinese will be making smocks and helmet covers in Plane Tree.

Hello friends,

Here are a few photos from our recent training day, based around training prior to the invasion of France in 1940. We had our Erste gruppe participate with good numbers. Our Zweite Gruppe was unable to attend.

Oh, and YES, we are using an MG42, totally wrong for 1940, but the gun had been on the fritz and we were using the training day to work the kinks out. Normally for this impression we would use our ZB-26.
