Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
Should i, if im worried, that my sole will come off on my type 2 boots, take them to a shoemaker and let him have a look as a precaution, or should i just use them, and later, if the sole comes off visit the shoemaker ? ..or cant they be saved ?
...was it the heel or sole.. ?

seing tim's new ones, they look exactly the same. The only good thing about the SMW boot is that they have invested money in the sole production. Everything else about the boot, they just cant get even close to what it should be , just have to face it.. It will be a very long long time before someone will make a decent 1st pattern boot, Joky's is the closest , but still massive room for improvement.
Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
Dont think theres any point buying any boot, they all seem to suck.
I answer my own question and will take the boot to a shoemaker.
Thank you..

My sturm type 2 lasted 4 months before they started to fall apart and 6 months, they fell apart .
They are not very well made, the sole at the front starts to split at the side after a period of time and my right heel came totally off and is somewhere in scotland . BUT they are really really comfy ,
when they start to show some wear, take them to your shoe maker to reinforce the front sole area ( dont know the technical name for that bit )
or you might not have a problem ? i know a few who have been fine with theres, but my boots were battered with lots of walking over rough terrain. Ill get some pics up of what i mean
Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
haha ( im not enjoying your loss, its just that.. its.. somewhere.. in scotland.. )..my right heel came totally off and is somewhere in scotland..
Pic would be great, so i can tell the shoemaker.. im a bit scared after all reading, that something will fall off / crack, after a while..
a mix of sadness / panic / stress / helplessness
Cheers

Our group have the RAU 2nd pattern boots, all okay after two years of normal use, marching, battling, etc... I use mine when gardening as well, no problems so far. Mine are as confortable as slippers.

Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
fj type 2 boots, winter conditions.. hobnails ?
use standard hobnails ?
a mix of gebirgsjäger & standard hobnails ?
or.. ?
As i mentioned earlier, i did a 30 min testwalk in the boots, and almost killed myself several times

Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
yes,
they are very slippery on any surface.
There is plenty of evidence to support that FJ hobnailed there Type II boots,
just use standard hobnails

Re: Jump boots!any ideas on suppliers?
Very true.
The 2 out of 3 in my collection are period hobnailed.
To my understanding this was done on an individual level and was not an official thing.
I'd go (as I did) with standard hobnails, as Tom said but GJ hobnails are also seen in some period photos

Interesting! Perhaps this also accounts for some of the original photos where it looks like most of the FJ in some pictures are wearing GJ boots?GRFJ wrote:[..]GJ hobnails are also seen in some period photos
