E2V2 - "Escape to Victory - The re-match" 5th June 2011
Once again, in joint co-operation with the British Legion Poppy appeal, and with the kind permission of Warner Brothers, “Escape to Victory – The re-match” returns to this years calendar. Bigger and better than our 2006 run out at “Military Odyssey”, this time we have a venue better suited to the cause, a new 10,000 seat professional football stadium.
We will be dressing up Colchester FC’s Weston Homes Community stadium to resemble the “Columbae” stadium from the movie and presenting a day of WW2 displays and fun, culminating in 90 minutes of full on footie war!
Original football strips, period ball, period rules.
Combining re-enactment, a fantastic war movie, football, and most importantly, providing us with an opportunity to raise a hatful of much needed cash for the Poppy Appeal.
The event commemorates the 75th anniversary of the British Legion and co-incidentally, the 30th anniversary of the launch of the film.
The event is supported by Gary Howard (Military Odyssey), “King and Country”, Colchester Football Club and with the very kind permission of Warner Brothers, who have once again granted me the limited license necessary for us to use their product.
We now send out the call upon the faithful to support this unusual event. The event needs:
• Football players
• Guards
• Allied POW’s in the stands
• Displays and vehicles in the car-park
• Good ideas on support and fund raising
We want the bulk of the players to be members of the re-enactment community, but we do have some surprise professional help in the form of some guest stars (more on this as they confirm) . We will be joined by servicemen and women recently returned from Afgan, a military band at halftime and members of the original movies cast.
All monies raised by the event and its associated fund raising will be presented to the British Legion Poppy appeal on behalf of the WW2 re-enactment community.
This isn’t about groups, associations. Its not about egos. Its about all of us pulling together to help a great cause.
Come on guys! We can win this!!

The license was generously granted by Warner Brothers today.
Plans are coming together with a couple of ex-England stars already in the team, with hopefully a few more ex pros to follow. Dave and Lou are moving mountains on this and doing a bang up job.

My support has already been registered and I have made a start. Let's hope this raises a 5 figure sum at least. Gigantic effort - Tremendous respect.

I may even stop tending my carrots and sheep for this, worthy cause for sure, and looks great fun in the bargain. Please let me know how I can assist, am happy to be a mardy guard
I am the bane of pointy stick forums, thrice banned for honesty, hater of internet re enactors ( you know, the ones that know everything but never do an event).

what the event could also do with imho are flyers/posters and if theres anyone out there that could knock up a website that would be great also.
