Seelow Heights

Myself and 3 others have just returned from a week long trip to the Seelow Heights, and Kustrin. Seen many sights.Slept in original trenches. many highs and lows as we walked the battlefields.

Here is an itinery of where we went. We'll post a report and photos later.

Also managed to stop off in Arnhem on the way home, but this was a little bonus for us.

Meant to say, and just for you Tom, we stopped at Stendal for a cuppa...! :wink:

Here are some photos....

First one is the fort at Kustrin. 10,000 were beseiged here by the Russian forces. The whole fort was reduced to rubble, and a soviet cemetary was established. However, we only saw desecretion of the graves...! The head stones were overturned, and the grave bases were all piled in a corner! No idea if the bodies were still there?!

The memorial was above the excellant museum of the Battle for Seelow.
There were some examples of the fighting that went on in the area. This house was sat right beside the road,untouched. the other example shows a church that was fought over.
