Burlap Camo nets

Post by Pathfinder Jack »

OK folks we are now there.

USE OF CAMOUFLAGE.-Camouflage uses concealment and
deception to promote our offensive action, to surprise, to mislead the
enemy, and to prevent him from inflicting damage upon us. Concealment
includes hiding from view, making hard to see clearly,
arranging obstructions to vision, deceiving and disguising, and deception
involving sound.

A long time coming but as always, when you come to reproduce something it is never as straight forward as one thinks…

I can now understand why no one has ever really bothered to produce these – there is usually a reason why you don’t see such things on the market and it is usually because of the work involved. But Pathfinder being Pathfinder doesn’t do things because it is easy – we do because it is hard … http://www.pathfinderdistribution.blogspot.com/

Back in the summer we supplied a museum in the USA with burlap nets and used that as a test bed. The museum being pleased with them came back and please a ‘enough to keep us busy’ order. So now that order is completed and ready to be shipped we have turned our attention to making some for our UK clients who are currently on our waiting list.

Interestingly – it has been a great journey of research and like so many things like this you learn so much along the way. We will never look at another net in the same light. But the bottom line is their function.
They are many different patterns and styles, the S pattern, Greek key pattern, U pattern, straight lines and so it goes on. (The nice thing is that we can do any of those if you so wish.)

You then have different nets for different zones – or parts of the world. You have temperate, arctic, jungle and desert. You then have different shades of garnish for different seasons (oi you at the back, wake up man!) winter and summer………

Contrasting colours are used. Colours are browns, olive drabs and black to match the dominant colours in temperate zones and this is where we have fixed our time zone for our nets.

Also you had as many situations where you would need to use camouflage or concealment. You would need to conceal anything from gun pits to aircraft, from rations to roads – this whole area was a massive ‘science’ for all armies.
Each application had a different name – drapes is what you would use on a vehicle or gun pit for example. Flat tops were used to conceal a position from an aerial view and chicken wire was often used for these if the concealment was to be semi permanent. Screens where used to conceal the sides of a position, a road block for example of the side of a flat top.

The dimension of our standard net is 15’x15’ or 225 square feet. And we use 600 feet of burlap. The reason we settled for 15’x15’ is simply because this is the size that folks wanted as it is manageable and for many they just wanted to have them on the vehicles – draped of the bonnet like on my GMC. The beauty of this is that they aren’t heavy and they are easy to store. And if you wanted a bigger net then you can easily tie two together or we can make 40’ x 40’ if you so wished!

There is a lot more information to come and will finish this tomorrow when everything live on the site but here are some images for now and we used an original net we have here for the shades – again there are something we need to take into consideration like the net is over 60 years old so the shade will not be the same as when it was first made.

And we can for American, British and German net!

Depending on your screen settings you should the three colours well...that said the lighting is a pain in the butt.

Any question then please fire away.

Kind regards,

Jack.

Thats looking pretty good - I'm fed up with trying to use a variety of materials to create an authentic looking, lightweight (not in the prejorative sense) and acceptable to the 'stitch-counters', WW2 German camo net.

Well promoted too. Three of the four 'P's' required for the successful marketing of a product are present above.

Its a 'Product' to fill a gap in the re-enactor products market, advertised in the right 'Place', (PG where else) with just enough 'Promotional' bumpf to raise heads. Now you just need the right 'Price' to get your phones hopping! :)

Many thanks Tac - there is also another P to add that is P for Plank for me leaving the price off!

The price was £50,000 but we have managed to get the price down to £174.99.

And we can swatch out to anyone who would like them!

Kind regards,

Jack.
