Starting Reenacting get Proper Advice

Post by Shergar »

Starting reenacting , could I take a few lines to give some good advice to those that are just starting the hobby of reenacting ,

1.Come unto the forum and ask questions pertaining to suitable persons and units to portray .

2. Speak to the other forum users and look at the differing groups out there , they mainly have either websites , forums or emails addresses .

DO ALL THIS BEFORE YOU BUY EQUIPMENT

3. When you have selected the era and type of unit you wish to do , seek advice on the uniform, equipment and weapons you require.

4. The people on here will guide you , give you advice and will steer you clear of bad dealers , dishonest traders , bad buys and needless expenditure of your limited money .

5. This forum is here to serve you and your needs as long as you respect it and the other forum users , so i would suggest that in order to make a success of your new hobby you utilise the resourses available on this forum .

GOOD FOUNTAINS OF KNOWLEDGE ARE AS FOLLOWS TO NAME BUT A FEW .

A. The Admin and Mod staff
B. Traders lists
C. Articles on particular subjects on threads in the forum
D. Websites given as banners on individual forum members posts .
E. Place a general question within the section you require information on .
I hope that this information may assist all new members to the forum determine whats the best path for them
regards . Shergar

Also before you buy anything check with the unit you are looking at to join and check with them what uniforms, equiptment, etc they allow or authorize. Listen to the "old hands" as they are called they have been around and have alot of information that will save you alot of grief. The starter of this thread has also given you excellent advice.

All good stuff from Mairtain but I'll sail along with Pzrwest on this one. You must make sure you ask the Alt Kampfers in the unit you want to join. Advice on this forum is undoubtably invalueable but the Unit you wish to joins requirements are key. Lets face it ask 100 re-enactors a question and you'll get 100 different answers!
The only exception is asking Evil Jim Perkins anything  because there in lies a world of Pain!

Most good outfits have a kit list. (Permitted)
Always ask for that.....
Items ought to be labelled
Essential
Desireable
Optional

Essentials should be first buys and only after ALL on Essential list are purchased/acquired should Desireable be obtained.
Thereafter - Optionals can be gathered at leisure.
