T R Smith, oldest re-enactor?

Post by crossofiron »

I came accross these piccies of my late dad yesterday and thought it might be amusing to see, for those of you who knew him!

I reacon they were taken in about 1957 (ish). I wish he was around for me to ask him what on earth he was doing :D

cheers, yes i'm quite sure it was pre SOF, RAU, etc!

i'm also sure that where ever he got it from, he got it for a song, unfortunately there is no-one left around for me to ask :(

nice thing to wonder about anyway :)

Nice pic's
and given the time period it must be original kit

but I tought that the cuff title was worn on the right hand sleeve or did they have
no set rule for that?

funny that, isnt it? Terry has that same "smith" look, they all look like my grandpa Burt.

Great pics, but not sure if the kit is ALL original...the cufftitle is on the wrong sleeve- it should be on the right.

I would disagree with you after seeing terry smiths collection for myself and i can say that a military museum would be put to shame with what this man had , that the probability was that the uniform was origional as terry didnt do anything in half measures . max can verify this for you as well along with those that knew and respected him .

Thanks Mairtin, that said, i'm sure dad slipped up occasionally just like the rest of us :D and on the piccies he only looks about 17!! and the tunic could well have been something he "bodged" together himself.
