looking for Das Reich Photo.

Looking for photo from the Book Loyalty is my honour. It shows an officer in a smock strutting along with the caption reading somthing like "The image of an SS officer. Young,fit and confident of victory". Sure Neil will know the one I mean. Dont currently have accsess to my books.

Yes he did was tried for war crimes and given the death penalty but this was changed to life in prison. he was released in 1956 he passed away 13th April 2001

I never said it was Sturmbannfuhrer Josef (Jupp) Diefenthal you said that and yes he was in the LAH also the award date is of Jupps Ritterkreuz 5. 02. 45 and the photo is commonly dated as 1941 barbarossa

Thanks for the info Franz, yes i did say it "looks" like Diefenthal, i know it isn't,
(think we had our wires crossed lol), as you say the pic is captioned Russia 41
also it is of the Das Reich.

The likeness is very similar though, if the info for the pic wasn't there you would
think it was him, thats what im saying mate.

Whats the smock in the original Plane tree?

Mine is an SMW "Type-1 M40, early 3/4 overprint", the one in the original pic
looks an early one too (looks like no skirt pockets), you cant tell because it is
rolled up but maybe a 1/2 overprint, the black pattern on the print seems to
be bigger than mine ??.
