Public Railway Event in Germany
Our Groups first public event in Germany
After having had several private events in Germany, we felt we were ready for our first public event,
(we have another in the Rhineland next month) we have 12 members and although not everyone could
attend, we still had a good turn out. 70% of our group represent the Waffen-SS "Florian Geyer".
The response from the public was super and we are more than welcome to attend again this summer.
"Sniper team is being sent out on patrol". We had a WW2 display and had several members of the public come over and we
spent a great deal of the time answering questions and posing for photos.
Unrealistic to play a "young grenadier" any longer, I have found my new role as Volkssturm
A quiet moment during an otherwise busy long weekend.
The "Florian Geyer" is one of the first established German reenactment groups to take part in public events on German soil.

Re: Public Railway Event in Germany
Taking over the footplate of a wartime German Feldbahn locomotive ( These were used by the German armed forces in WW2)
After talking to railway staff, they let me take over the locomotive, checking out the controls.
Some of the lads posing for the public, they were all over us, a great weekend and great weather.
We had to wait for the returning train before we could go on the train journey

Re: Public Railway Event in Germany
This Wehrmacht locomotive was built in Düsseldorf in 1939 and saw service in Russia 1942.
On the red plate behind my shoulder you can just about makeout the year........ 1941.
Switching the points, locomotives are being changed.
We found an old building which will be an ideal setting for a future private event.

It would seem that Ingo has posted some additional photos from this event in the German language section.

Thank you for your Report Bill!
Now i think we had a great start and I'm really looking forward our next events - i think visiting the Gunpowder Milsl at the next weekend will be a great fun too and a good training for our next public events in the next days espacially for the museums, we are working together.

Excellent News - Wonderful pictures and exciting developments. Wonderful especially to see a Living History event taking place in context and being so well received. Sort of makes all those "arguments" about what can and can't be don moot - doesn't it?
As ever - there are those who sit and type about it and those who go out and DO IT.
Well done to ALL involved. Onwards, forwards and upwards!

Thank you Paul,
Normally i plan something like this long before but this time it was just on the fly^^
but the reactions and the fun we have has shown me that our work is been acceptet by the public.
So I think we are on the right way and we want to go ahead

Volkssturm with a Soviet DP or as the Germans named it, the Maschinengewehr 120(r)
"A patrol returns after looking for partisan bands". We managed to find the time for training the new group members.
A break in the fighting allows this Volkssturm soldier time to read a newspaper.
In the evening we could relax and enjoy a hard earned meal and later a sing-song around the campfire.
@Paul, thanks for your comments and of course your input and support, in the past and in the future.
@All, there will be some films placed in youtube of this event, but they are still being worked on at the moment.
Cheers, Bill.

Re: Public Railway Event in Germany
Thank you for your words Paul.
as they say in German: "Forward ever - backward never! "
The DP28 Landser also called the Plattenspieler, is still equipped with the piston of the first generation.
I love these captured weapons, they make the picture really. Of my grandfather I know he was in Stalingrad and the Battle has been through, which the soldiers often traded for its MP40 Ppsh ... This happened not only to open shooting, but simply because of the strength and frost resistance.
So much so, that tries the Army Ordnance Department, this re build on 9mm, as you could tell that this is too costly, the decision was merely a guide for loading the magazines to publish.
The videos go off tomorrow in work.
Cheers Ingo
