Greetings
I have a food container, it is not dated but is exactly the same as my 1942 dated example. The non dated model has a liner that is actually enameled. Would this be correct for war time carriers? Unfortunately the dated model did not have a liner to compare

My understanding is they started out with aluminium liners and the enamelled versions were a late war expedient, similar to aluminium water bottles giving way to enamelled varieties at war's end... it doesn't really help date your example though, not sure if manufacture continued at all post war? Certainly correct for a late war scenario anyway as I am sure inners and outers were regularly swapped around by field kitchens! Do either of yours have the ladle in the lid? Mine is missing that item... :(

Both ladels are missing. With some further information I received today. You can tell a wartime from post war containers by the ladel holders in the lid. War time was welded and and post war containers used rivets.
