MG34 help required

Post by warren007 »

Hello all im considering buying this MG34, dated 1940 and coded '936' with matching numbers except buttstock group and feed tray. Complete with deact cert and deactivated very nicely and swings apart. Comes with all the original accessories shown in the picture just after a guide price on what to pay is £1500 around about right or too mich

Totting up the individual items I calculated £1460, but then I valued the gun itself at £1000 and they have been going for more than that with some dealers (£1200 or more) so I would say the price is spot on for what looks a good set. Try offering £1450 as it is definitely worth that in the current market, but £1500 is not unreasonable....

(Edit) Just seen your wanted ad - I see you missed the one above on MIlweb... good luck anyway!

You dont say whether its an early or late spec, if the breach breaks and the barrel comes out then its early. Early specs go for about £2500.00 plus, matching numbers, (or not). Later specs as per Stonleigh 2013 were going from £1500.00. Trouble is there aren't many for sale at the moment which is great for me as i have a very early spec, however not all the serials numbers match. Not a problem for me as i only want it for show purposes and field stripping. (also means it been back to the armourer for re calibrating/refurbishment, therefore at some time its had a hard life!!). Lafettes are now going for £1000.00 plus, i also have an early Laffete as well.

MG34 Lafette on sale with RJ Militaria at £2350!!!! I think £1200 would be a starting point these days for a private sale...

He just said the MG34 above breaks, so a post 1988 deac., like most of them. Only pre-1988 have removable barrels, and do command a substantial premium. There is no 'old spec' or 'new spec' with MGs just different interpretations of the rules by different proof houses. A current deac MG34 can often still be broken but the barrel must be welded in place and filled. 1990s 34 deacs vary as to whether the flash hider unscrews or not but they should all break in half, there wasn't a step change in 1995 like there was with submachine guns and machine pistols.

Sorry for off topic - but the thread's purpose is now defunct anyway...

Yes, £1850 was the Milweb asking price for the OPs set that he queried... wonder if it fetched that? RJ still have the Lafette 34 listed at £2350...
