Luftwaffe Breadbags?

Did the Luftwaffe breadbag feature the pointed strap ends that mark most wartime Heer/SS production?
Does anyone make a good repro with this feature?
I can only find crappy repros with square cut straps.

At The Front had listed a blurb in recent months [that is now missing from their "What's in the Works" list] that they were working on Luftwaffe field gear such as the rucksack. While it is only my personal hunch, I wouldn't be shocked that in the future they do produce some LW blue items.

yes Luftwaffe breadbags had the pointy flaps, similar to the rest of the German forces.

No doubt about that however a few days in the field did the job.

leave it outside, until ready for use, you wont recognise it then, rain to wash it, sun?? to bleach it

I use originals - not this Asia crap...

that ok if you can afford originals, most people cant.
i got mine from China , small alterations, bleached in the sun, washed in the rain and looks original!!

To make a breadbag from China look like an original you have to change the leather parts, the metal parts, the cloth and the cut...
The only really good Repros are made by ATF - but they are far too expensive.
I never paid more than 10 EUR for an original breadbag - of course you need luck and have to be patient...

trouble with the Kanal is makes a lot difference to price and location, and again it depends on why you want an original. Most people want to use it and any with common sense would not use an original as it probably wont last long in re enactment.
so if you can get originals for 10 euros, let us all know and we can put in an order with you,

First and foremost I am a collector. Reenactment comes second.
I do not like the repro stuff, so only some things I use are really good repros – I try to use as much originals as possible – they have this “feeling” you do not get from repros. And about the durability – originals were not made for museums – they were made to be used in the field. In all the years of reenactment I did not destroy any of my original Y-straps, breadbags, belts, canteens, mess kits, rucksacks, tornisters, gaiters, ammo pouches, coats, parkas and so on. This stuff was made to last for 1000 years…

FYI ATF are in America so imports to the UK are subject to both VAT and IMPORT DUTY!! you say you are a collector, then dont criticise any re enactor that doesnt want original gear. You are lucky to find the odd bit for a low price, 3rd Reich stuff is stashed away all over Europe and thats not the case in the uk!! We await stonleigh to see what prices are being charged and in many cases overcharged from some, but not all, European traders. so consider yourself lucky that you collect in Europe.
