Kameraden!
What are the differences types of gas mask straps? (the long one and the short one)
Do the early war ones have the metal end piece (often stamped "LUX") or is that for Afrikakorps?
Late war ones seem to have a ruberized end on the short strap? How long is an original? What are the differences to the postwar ones? What kind of material? A picture of the original material would be nice!
And where to get a good replica? Originals are about 40 - 60 Euros on fleabay, but you never now if they are rotten.
Schöne Grüße

Re: Gas mask strap
40-60 euros for gasmask straps is quite expensive imho,
especially when you can get a genuine tin, mask and straps
for around 100, the difference in sizes is for a reason, the
strap with the hook goes onto the belt while the longer one
goes over the shoulder, as for hooks marked with LUX that
is just one variation of makers stamp, as for the material
they are quite similar to Post War types except the War type
examples are not so thick webbing, i hope this has answered
your questions.

Re: Gas mask strap
I wanted to know how long the long strap is. And the "LUX" stamping is not on the hook but on the end clip that prevents the unraveling of the strap. Are the end clips on any particular kind of gas mask straps (e.g. africa or early war etc)
For a good quality original I have seen these prices on Ebay germany, of cause the prices for torn ones are lower, or with rust stains (which break soon in my experiencef) but I cant use them for long. So a good quality repro would be great, I have the cheap ones from fleabay already.
Arent there any gas-mask-strap-specialists here ; - )

Re: Gas mask strap
If you need to know more i suggest you invest in some good ref books, after
all a picture can say a 1000 words, thats half the fun finding out stuff yourself,
"Deutche Soldaten" is a good starter book it has all you need to know about
gas mask straps/tins etc
By the way you keep mentioning DAK straps/Afrika tins etc as if there
was some difference, i assure you there was no difference, the gasmask,
tin and straps were all the same, the only difference was that the tins
were painted a sand/tan colour and some were airtight which had the D
stamped on the bottom of the tin but these are quite common as KM
crews used them too, anyway good hunting
