MY FIRST SS BUCKLE!

YIPEEE! ok, got that out of my system

Alright mates, for reals now, as noted I have officially gotten my first Schutzstaffel belt buckle (eeeeeeek! sorry) to which I am very very happy. Now, the Gentleman I purchased it from says it's an original, but I have that small little voice saying I might have done not so good on it so I hope to put it to rest....

With how good some repros are these days I'm finding it very hard to tell the difference. So that being said, I have either bought a real expensive repro, or a very nicely priced original. To me it looks legitimately fine, but I will post some pictures of it once It comes in.

So, what you all would probably be wanting to know what I got it for, It was exactly $156 :D

I'll post the pics soon and I'll leave it in you Folks capable and much needed opinions! . Cheers!

In the states, for that price...that's dirt cheap....looking forward to seeing the pictures, but if it's in decent enough condition that it could pass as a repro....for $156 that's a huge steal if it is an original...in the States.

also thanks very much for the reply back Herr Oberleutnant Ulrich, saw a little pattern there for "in the states" going, is it possible to get them cheaper across the pond?

Hmm...looks pretty good for some parts, but I'm not convinced about the loop to connect to the hook on the belt...

As for cheaper....everything German WW2 is cheaper here, there's just more of it laying around.

Hmmmmm....personally i would put some pics of it on the Wehrmacht awards forum tbh,
there are dealers/experts on there but i agree with Ulrich the hook looks a bit sloppy
imho.....although it could be a late War type which are known to be a bit "rough" looking
in regards to finish, also the detailing on the stamping doesn't look all that great, i have
seen originals and the detailing looks a lot crisper...as said you are best getting an expert
opinion to be sure :?:
Good lucks, Pipes

I thought the HK looked off, but from the front it looked ok...it's a pity people can't be honest these days, fakes are getting better and better and now you really have to beware.

Thanks for the replies fellows, did you have the link for that Wehrmacht awards forum?

Also this is my first rodeo so not too up on the lingo still....Like what is a HK and whats a RODO mark? forgive me for my meager knowledge

Sooo for all intensive purposes, do you folks think it may be a late war buckle or is it in fact a repro? I have a chance at might being able to return it if it is indeed a copy, but do wish to make TRIPLE sure it is.

Thanks again mates for the input, like I've said before this is my first time doing both ww2 re~enacting and purchasing items, and trying very hard not to flood the forum with questions of mine so thanks to all for patience :)

Fakes are just the high quality reproductions re-enactors demand, sold by the unscrupulous to the unknowing.

SplinterA: to an extent so people make copies to be sold as originals as an intentional scam.

LHistorian: HK is Hakenkreuz, or hooked cross in English meaning Swastika. As for being an original, I'm 99.999% sure it's fake. Once had a nice Heer belt buckle made with the same sloppy signs, but was convinced it was original especially with the rust...but it turned out to be a fake. If you want originals, best to ask fellow reenactors as they probably won't cheat you. Let me know what you're looking for and I can find it.

This is my RODO SS buckle and late war belt (RODO=Robert C Dold Offenberg)I was lucky to get this from a friend, but I still did
a lot of research on WAF before I bought it(they fake them, but they are nothing like the real thing if you know what to look for.) http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/index.php
If you want to collect you need books, books and more books on your chosen subject,I have been collecting since 1971,but I'm no expert,I am still learning. My first SS buckle was an unmarked O&C (Overhoff & Cie)it was years ago now and more luck than judgement.John

Nice SS Tagebuch! Does it also have the section in the back for uniform identification? I have a LAH one but sadly the pages are just about to all fall out.
