Night fighting STG-44

Post by Oberleutnant Ulrich »

Looking for all references on the night-fighting STG-44 and it's power box.

Much appreciated for the help

I've got a project in mind

I take it your refering to the vampyre, the battery box was a backpack and very heavy, the infrared lamp went on the gun and I think the user had goggles, but I will check in my book. osprey have just released anbook on german automatic rifles, its in there with a pic, think its a drawing rather than a photo though.

edit... just checked the scope had the lap on the top, zielgera 1229 vampir was its name

Yes, the vampir had a large scope and the infra red light was fixed on top. The battery box looked like a radio on the back. The only problem is that there's so few pictures and I need all the angles.

the osprey book has the one drawing in it, so may help if u can get hold of it, other than that I think your gona be lucky finding them, unless a museum has one still in its collection, may be worth contacting the royal armouries in leeds, they have a massive collection of fire arms and may have one or parts of one.
