Police green maybe ?

Yeah and when you scrape some off you'll get yellow below. Lots of them show up in the Netherlands, I'm told for the postwar civil protection unit : BB.

Might want to go on the WAF before you do anything. I read somewhere on there that this color was used by the KM. Could be wrong though.

I've got mine from a family member together with his uniform. Straps aren't german as well. Know about 10 more of these exactly like this. Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine carried feldgrau canisters.

Looks Dutch to me too. I have one I got from a colleague and it belonged to his father. Can't get to it at the moment to directly compare, but definitely looks like the one I have, straps and all.

Have you actually tried to scrape off the paint yet? The paint on the inside looks like the only coat? Can you tell me if that is true or not? I don't know why they would reissue something and even paint the inside. What is the point? There is evidence to support light blue/ gray paint on the gas can... This can is marked to an actual KM sailor and was researched by a member of the WAF. Just a simple search there with 'Kriegsmarine Canister' shows that about half of the members who posted/ replied in these threads believe that they were Dutch reissue and the other half believe they are KM. Some are more convincing then others.

Just putting extra thought into it.

KM canisters where hand painted, on the outside only, as per regulations. Though still 99% of them remain feldgrau.

Another one of these * note the marking on top *
