Re: Tents
Firstly we had to source grey canvas which is a lot harder than you think unless you want 1000 metres of the stuff ( this tents uses about 20 metresI think). We managed to track down a firm that already had a substantial quantity, so have secured a few roles for the tents we want (another 3 on order so far - plus some fly sheets and ground sheets etc)
One of the lads in the group works next door to a canvas repair place in Hull, so he went to see them and they were up for having a go. Fortunatley they were interested and by the time I went to see them they had already done quite a bit of research themselves so we compared notes adn designs etc, then they made the tent inthe picture asa prototype.
The canvas, made up, cost £450
We sourced wooden poles and ridges etc from a firm in dorset called RL Trim.
We have 2 centre uprights, four corner poles and 3 ridges (1 top and 2 sides - authenticated with photos),
After that there is the rope for gys etc to add as we just loop those over the poles rather than have them attached to the tent, and of course pegs.
All in all we are talking around the £600 mark which is comparable with other similar tents oin the market.
If anyone is interested I can get the canvas/tent made up and then you can source/buy ur own poles etc direct.

Re: Tents
I'd be interested to see the pictures of the ridge in use. Only reason I ask is that the original manuals don't mention one in the packing list, and the originals I've got/had all have an integral rope attached to the 2 main grommets along the ridge line which acted as the ridge when pulled taught.

Re: Tents
Certanly could be wrong about the ridges and certainly happy to stand corrected as I have not seen an original first hand.
This is the picture we found, and it is probably (almost certainly) a repro tent in this picture, but undertsood it to be from a reliable source.
The line drawing does appear to show ridges though, and I understand this to be from original.

Re: Tents
That's interesting as it shows a large sod sheet along the edges which the originals didn't have (apart from one dated 1935 in Reichsheer camo). The poles look to be the same sectional type as the uprights, presumablyinterchangeable apart from the end pieces.
