You're right, they don't very often. But the same HK69(iirc) 37mm launcher various forces use with non lethal ammunition is perfectly capable of firing HE, CS, etc ;)

Fairly pointless however as no one's got the bollocks to order them to use 'em  ( remember those riots a while back? )

Well what about firing a blank round from a "grenade launcher"? Same concept as some of the mortars that have been used for reenactment in the uk, is the use of blank rounds an issue when not being the standard rifle or pistol blank round. What about a blank firing Panzerschreck? Or Panzerfaust (The head just blowing up :D )

Herr Leutnant ,
I have a pyro capable Panzershreck , so I imagine it's capable of projecting rockets with a few alterations - however , once I start doing so , I fall foul of the Law - I have never come across a mortar that actually fired objects in my time on the reenactors circuit , though the ones I have fired could probably do so . So the idea of firing an object from a rifle is , I think , is in the same category , possible but unwise

Jäger Halle

Have you thought about bringing your Panzerschreck to Switzerland? I wanna see a GJ fire that off the peak of the Eiger!!

But you must post a picture of the beauty!!!

But are you allowed to make your own blankfirers in the UK?

Horrido!

If it were to fire, it may be construed to be PRIG propelled rocket improvised Grenade launcher which are illegal in British law. Even a simple mastic gun could be readily converted into one.

Here's a thought: in airsoft, the players can use 40mm rifle grenades, as fitted in a suitable launcher, to fire foam Nerf rockets (the grenade itself does not leave the launcher, but contains a refillable gas charge - upon triggering the grenade, it vents the gas into the bottom of a honeycomb structure which then blasts out pellets/only gas)

Surely something like that - which is legal - could be used to make a functioning Schiessbecher?

What I wanted it for was to make a live demo for public viewing. My father who does G.I. has a real inert rifle grenade and has never had any problems with law enforcement here in the US. What I was worried about was the rifling the German version has, shredding a projectile.
As stated in the original post I wish to make something safe( replica on same principal) not a weapon.I could do a bit of damage with a Molotov cocktail as well and they are easy
to make.
I find it intriguing that you are not allowed such items in the UK.
What is on the restricted list of purchase?
I saw on here once that even some deactivated weapons are illegal as well.
Please elaborate on what is legal and what is not.
This list may help some in the UK.

I forgot to mention that my father fires the grenade at living history shows.

On a related note (and I hope Soldaten does not mind me asking), where would be the best place to pick up one of these Schiessbecher launchers?
You don't want to know.

Reproductions do exist and I have seen them for far less.I'm still shopping around for mine, but first wanted to see if it was worth the hassle and cash. :D
