Wire cutter holster/carrier

Post by askhati »

Hi all

I recently ordered one of these short wire cutters for a pioneer impression:

Any idea where I can acquire the matching holster/belt carrier? Have looked at all the sites I'm familiar with, but am turning up blank everywhere.

Vit Zaminek on Ebay has had reproduction pouches for sale. Frank Barone in California could probably do it as well, as he does excellent custom work for the hobby all the time. He doesn't have a website, but I can find his number for you if you are interested.

Thanks, I have found the seller and item in question.

However, the pouch I am looking for is this one:

Any idea where I can get a repro/real one like that?

Another question (which I should probably have asked first): which of the two carrier designs was more common from 1943 onwards? Going for an Italian theater outfit specifically.

I am not aware of anyone making that wire cutter carrier. I would assume it would be more common late war, due to the large amount of leather it takes to make the larger pouch. There are people who could make this though as it is a simple design.

Does anyone have more pictures of this pouch, especially the strap design that keeps the cutter inside? I'm looking to have one made, but details are a bit thin at this point...

I'm looking at the 15. PGD division, 115. PGD regiment - they had a pioneer company attached, but finding details about them has been an uphill struggle...

There are several sites out there though its just a matter of going to the other forums as well
I think there should be a Pionier board here as well.Dont know why there isn't

As they were so hard to find I ended up doing a pouch myself based on that picture off the MP44 site. Wasn't too hard once you get into it.

Yes it's field made, but it looks like the closest i'll ever get :)

As a top tip though, I would go for the full cover to protect your antique snippers. Didn't really matter back in the day, but a seasons worth of throwing them about means the paper / compressed card / whatever it is on the handles start to rub away and break down which is a bit of a heart breaker.

Good call on the handle grips wearing down, never considered that. The grips are bakelite, can't say I have much experience with wearing them down in the field. Maybe wrap them in wire as reinforcement? (similar to wrapping around Enfield rifles used to fire rifle grenades)

Your custom pouch looks good (won't be anal enough to point out discrepancies :P ). Think I'll get both carriers in the end, use the smaller one only for (non-combat) shows.
