Generator
I was shown a number of Generators at the weekend which were described as being WW2 German.
They were released through a British Army sale during the 1950's but as you can see they have been stored out-side for many years resulting in their very poor condition. A number would have to be broken to produce a few good examples.
Can anyone confirm what thay are and if they are likely to be of WW2 vintage.

Re: Generator
Jeez, I love German engineering as much as the next man but I think you will have your work cut out to say the least! Are you sure they are not 'beyond repair'?

Re: Generator
Not totally beyond repair as some are covered up better than others, but I would like to check they are not post-war before I aquire any.
There is a similar one on the web but it has a gaugue and knob/switch by the out-put socket.
Also presumably a source of spares for others if they are war-time. Plenty of Magneto's etc there.

Fair one, good call on getting info before outlay, I hope it works out for you.

Re: Generator
Looks like ther is a data plate on the aluminium cowl of one of the generators, I would expect to see all the data you need on there.

Unfortunately an 8 hour round trip to check and about £70.00 worth of petrol.
If anyone can enhance this picture enough to read it would be good.

Re: Generator
I have to say that they dont look like kraut ww2 to me, all the small ones I have ever seen have been extremely cube like highly compact and within a tubular frame.
Always keep the boot of destiny aimed at the arse of anticipation!

Re: Generator
DKW Chemnitz is ww2 or before , factory was destroyed I believe at the end of the war, the (2 stroke) model of genny you're looking at there has a kickstarter, one of the lads in the SBG has the same model. There is a smaller model with a tubular frame and starting handle and a much bigger one which has a Zuendapp KS600 motor (4 stroke) in it! for what they would cost to fix you'd never get your money back as they only go for a few hundred quid all working in the original paint etc.....
Re: Generator
.
The generator the SBG machanics have is an Auto Union , quite a heavy and powerful bit of kit. and as far as I know - it works !

Re: Generator
looks like a DKW dataplate similar to this one found it hereRe: Generator
Thanks for the information and links.
They clearly share the same mechanics with a few detailed differences including a larger out-put socket.
Untill I get the oportunity to check the plates again I will not know for sure.
If anyone knows the owner of the other and wants to direct him in my direction I am sure I can take off any spares he may like from these relics. They are likely to be scrap value due to their condition so I will probably buy a couple if I can find two reasonably good ones.
Hopefully being kick start they cannot kick back like a starting handle.
Battery Charging is something much neglected in Living History displays. The demand for batteries for both vehicles and radio was very high and charging would have been taking place all ther time on operations.

Re: Generator
Definitely good for spares as long as you can get them cheap enough, I have a friend from Germany who sells these at Beltring and every year he sells 'em all by the end of the week(usually to the SBG )
