Mess tin paint?
Hello -
Looking to repaint a mess kit in Graugrun, but 1944mil. is out of this color. So, does anyone know what a suitable equivalent paint to use would be?
Thanks!
Bill K.

Re: Mess tin paint?
Go to your local auto paint store and ask them to mix some RAL 6006. If they can mix it with a cellulose enamel base then go for that.

Thanks for the reply, but I thought "Graugrun" was RAL 7008???

Again, thanks for responding - I should have mentioned in my original post that I have no access to any spray painting tools - So, I need spray paint.
Anyway, thanks again!

'Total matt' isnt that optimal i guess..as originals mostly are 'semi-gloss'.

you should have mentioned you were in the USA as well?bellumbill wrote:I should have mentioned in my original post that I have no access to any spray painting tools
We can get these custom colours in a standard spray can from the auto paint sellers. Is a similar thing not available in the USA?
Re: Mess tin paint?
Try Lomax on ebay, this looks ok imo
Item number 160752240992, "oliv-feldgrau" (ral 6006),
spray paint and delivers to the US.
Good shopping, Peiper

Sorry, I thought my profile mentioned I was in the US, but now see that it doesn't - I will change it asap - sorry for the confusion! I don't knwo about auto parts stores, but I know at Home Depot or Lowes, the big home stores, will make up paint for you.

Zib's 7008 is way off! Same thing with Kommiss. If you ask for 7008 at your local paint store you will get the wrong shade aswell, it must have been changed since the 40's, just like a few other RAL codes. So that's a no-go aswell.
As you can tell, i have tried to get ahold of this shade, but i havent succeded yet.
My dad runs an automotive paintshop however, and i'm going to mix some up myself there, using one of my original mess tins for reference.
Not saying that no tins where semi-gloss from the factory, just that many used examples could have been flat from the begining.

"total matt" paints gets more glossy with use, the few totaly un-issued mess tins that i have seen, where flat.Oberschnaepser wrote:'Total matt' isnt that optimal i guess..as originals mostly are 'semi-gloss'.
