MP40 Pouch question

Post by barryG »

Bit confused about MP40 pouches, seem to be in all colours and canvas or leather. Obviously Im aware of DAK or lutwaffe ones etc but what would be the norm, the green colour canvas seems common amongst reenactors but whats with the leather ones?

Leather - Pre/early war - used with earlier MPs as well.

I think theres more green early / more tan coming in late on. can't really go wrong with green and brown or black leatherwork.

Barrrrrrreeeeeeee....... MP38 was most likely used with Leather.......

Go for the nice Czech made ones that RAU gets..... I think Anthony has some too.....

Try to avoid the leather ones and remember if on sentry or guard duty only to wear the left pouch....... If you didn't need full ammo compliment you only wore one pouch.

Thanks folks, the ATF ones look very nice but with postage are very pricey. I may have found some from a member in our group

ATF correct their postage(normally down the way) after checkout, worth asking.

I assume you mean his own at £35 rather than the ones at £28? They do look very good indeed.

In my opinion, the Afrika Korps didn't get "special" or web-strapped pouches. If you look at the original pouches with the web straps they are always dated 43 or 44. Here is a example of the pouches(Green!) they DID have:

( look at the helmet cover, curious what colour that would be.. )
CDB taking it way too serious!

Off Topic for thread but the covers were Hessian - like sandbag material - So they would be earthy, sandy brown/yellow.
