Surface finishing of metal on Messgerät?

Post by Heinz »

I've managed to pick up a Messgerät on the cheap. Woodwork on the outside is in lovely condition, as is the bakelite inside it. Problem is that the metalwork is pretty crappy. Alright, very crappy. It needs shotblasting to get rid of the surface rust, then refinishing. The question is, what type of finish would be used on the metalwork. Be surprised if its blued, be even more surprised if its enameled. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

J.

**edit** I put the topic in here, because there's a few items of German kit that look like they're finished in the same way, not just comms related items.
Major Richard Heidrich: "Why do you want to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane?"

Willi Schmidt: "When the Luftwaffe builds a perfectly good aeroplane, Sir, I shan't need to"
